Hello all, I am Soumya, currently doing my Master’s in business administration (highest degree in business). I am running for Welfare and community officer this year.
University is about more than studying, it’s about life altering experiences, these are the experiences which shapes our personality as well as our life outside the university. I am an international student and have acquired degrees from 3 most prestigious universities in UK. I have spent my time at universities in Belfast and Coventry, this has given me opportunities to interact with so many students coming from different cultural background by running various student societies.
I am also a marketing ambassador with the Leeds Beckett university and get to help in events within.
Coming with experiences from 3 different universities, I can best understand the issues one deals with while experiencing a student life. Finances are the major concern amongst students, and being an international student, I myself have had concerns regarding finances, which sometimes ends up impacting our mental and physical wellbeing too, leading to further less socialisation or working more shifts at work. My manifesto outlines the vision to make student social life, their mental health, and the communities in all better. By ensuring the SU is approachable, confidential, and accessible. I aim to implement an open-door policy - hopefully a physical door as well as a virtual one!
Work with other officers to provide welfare access for international students and postgraduates since they are frequently left out of welfare discussions. Lastly, I aim to launch a campaign which would be knows as ‘Lets’s TALK’, which will allow anyone to come and talk within groups to each other, the space which will be completely non-judgemental.
