Hi, I'm Harkeerat Kaur.

I'm pursuing MSC IT, I'm an international student and I'm standing for SU President. Being student of Leeds Beckett, I came across so many issues which affected my mental health as there was no support available. I decided to go for this role so that i could provide facilities to all Leeds Beckett students so they should not suffer as i have. I've come across many students going through same problems regarding settling in and outside the university. I want to be voice for everyone to the seniors of the university.

International Club

There is an international club for everyone but students are not given proper awareness due to which they get so many issues in adjusting in the university which affects their mental health and feel homesick. I want to explain all the facilities given by SU by meeting either online or offline so that you feel at home in the UK and can make friends and share issues with each other. Students should feel Equality is given to them as well.

Checklist

After enrollment, students don't know where to look for other information such as BRP Collection, NI application, where to look for Job, etc. Students (with spouses too) should be given checklist what to do after enrollment so that they can look for the right thing and also get awareness which makes their settling more easier. I want to create a list for all students so that they don't have to look at google for these things.

Accommodation

If students' don't want university accommodation, what should they do? As observed, no information is given to them. Students with spouses should be given proper guidance and provided alternative details so that they can also feel comfortable to adjust and concentrate on their study easily. Proper information should be given to them so they can easily make their choice. I want to update students and partners with proper details so that they can see other options.

Limited engagement

There is little engagement among students and the SU so they are not able to share their problems with them. I want students to feel comfortable as if we meet and ask for issues by organizing get together in places such as HIVE so that they can also be heard by everyone. No awareness is there for them as what is happening in other departments, I want to ensure that they are given proper details and updates of events and competitions happening in either of campuses.

I want to make changes because of my university experience and I want students to enjoy student life, not just pressure of study. I am standing for this role because it is a duty to perform different activities for each and every student to feel student life at the university, to increase interaction between all students either undergraduate or masters students. I am approachable anytime for you.

So, I believe that international students should also be given a chance to show their perspective of change in university and I assure you that you will definitely see change as well.
