Sanafatima Patel

My name is Sanafatima Patel, I would like to be your next International Student Community Leader. Being an international student at Leeds Beckett university, I have observed and personally experienced that being an international student and settling is not so easy. Feeling Lonely, Socialisation, Getting Depressed, the process of admittance and attending university and the most important cost involved in living in UK as an international student. I personally think that so many things can be improved about the support which is available for the students who came thousands of Miles away leaving their Home. We have not spent our childhood here and not grown up here, so we don’t need to feel like isolating, because it doesn’t mean we don’t belong.

EXPERIENCE

  • Prefect at my school
  • Supervised and managed many of the events like Fun Fair, Sports day, Republic Day, Teachers day, Children’s day etc.
  • Head Sister of ISOC at LBU
  • Course Representative
  • Student Ambassador

I’ve gained Leadership and intellectual skills that will enhance my ability to establish a sense of community and alliance among international student at Leeds Beckett university.

To break down the barrier with other nationalities I will create a standardized system across the university for holding international social events, fresher events, and staying away from your family and home means missing the taste of your hometown so I will also try to arrange Food based events.

As an International Student Myself, I know the difficulties that most of the international student experiences, adapting the new culture or to make friends and get involved socially. I will try to encourage build the relationship between British and international students by setting informal languages clubs where students can meet regularly, learn new languages, will organise events such as international Dinner, games evening and will make them aware about these events through Mails, and international groups, and will encourage to attend it by telling them the benefits which they will get and things they can learn.

Stepping away from your home means make our self independent so sometimes we don’t get how to deal with the problems and situations so feel like giving up. To come over this I will also try to make group or page where you can share your difficulties. Also entering in British country for the first time means not knowing much about rules and regulations, I will try my best to arrange some events where you will be told about how to set up bank account, phone contracts, areas near the university some places for food and about the weather and British culture and shopping places.

I will try my best my best to improve and bring the change in the community,

I would like you all to vote for me Sanafatima Patel.

Thank you so much.
