Hi, I am Roma and I hope to be your next welfare officer. I am pursuing my Master in Sports and Exercise Medicine. As an international student at the university, not only have I had working experience as a physiotherapist back home, in which role I witnessed first hand the importance of wellbeing of my patients; I also have a unique perspective tackling issues of wellbeing from my experiences in India. I am caring, detail-oriented, patient, and extremely hard-working. As a student, I am not only dedicated to my program of study, but also devoted to caring for the wellbeing of those in my cohort. I am a great supporter of improving the wellbeing of all students, which is why I am competing for the position of welfare officer.
To address the cost-of-living crisis as the wellbeing officer, I would work with colleagues within the SU and see if resources can be reallocated to fund a financial aid program targeting those who are affected the most by this crisis. This would be in the form of support on food and groceries. For example, with enough funding, we could offer free lunch twice a week for those who are stretching the resources they have at hand thin already, or we could work with local charity organizations to see if discounted everyday groceries items can be made available to those in need. Should I be elected, I would do my best to put these ideas into action and help those in need.
If elected, I hope to run campaigns that raise awareness of mental health in ways like having sponsorship forum for both home and international students, social events, as well as debates and forums. I aim to start a project that will help students to find spaces on campus where they feel safe to communicate and discuss what is close to their hearts, as well as making praying spaces more accessible to students across both campuses. I will also pay attention to the student body and base my missions on your needs.
