At Leeds Beckett, over 1,000 student representatives volunteer their time to ensure that you have the very best academic experience while you study.

LBSU oversees the academic representation program at Leeds Beckett, working collaboratively with the University and providing ongoing training and support to Course Reps, Postgraduate Research (PGR) Reps and Global Majority Student Ambassadors.

You can find out more about the responsibilities of student representatives and our commitment to their ongoing support and development in the Student Rep Volunteer Agreement or contact the team at studentvoice@leedsbeckett.ac.uk

Course Reps

Course Representatives are undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate taught (PGT) volunteers who give their time to represent and empower the students on their courses to shape the student experience not only in the current academic year, but evoking change for years to come.

If you would like to become a Course Representative in your area of study, please contact your Course Director to let them know, and they can ensure that you are registered through your Course Administrator.

Post Graduate (PGR) Reps

If you are a PGR student studying for your PhD or MRes and your main relationship with the university is as a student, then you may have ideas for how the academic experience for you and your peers could be improved.

The role of PGR Representative is a voluntary position where you would be in regular contact with other PGR students in your school to hear their views and collect feedback on their experience. One PGR Rep per school can also attend the School Academic Committee, which takes place approximately 5-6 times per year, to meet with academic staff and discuss the School’s plans for the student experience. Those who attend will be provided a full briefing ahead of meeting to review the papers and topics to be discussed.

PGR Reps are supported in their role by the PGR Academic Representation Assistant, Yata Lengsiriwattanagul.

Global Majority Ambassadors

PLEASE NOTE: This role is available to Leeds Beckett students who identify within the Global Majority Community, which represents students of, but is not limited to, African, Asian, Arabic, Chinese and Caribbean descent.

The Global Majority Student Ambassador role is a voluntary role for students who are looking for ways to make a difference to the student experience of others in their community, their courses and their wider School. This could be based on your own personal experience that has spurred you to want to make change, or a collective experience of others.

One Global Majority Student Ambassador per school can also attend the School Academic Committee, which takes place approximately 5-6 times per year, to meet with academic staff and discuss the School’s plans in terms of the student experience. Those who attend will be provided a full briefing ahead of meeting to review the papers and topics to be discussed.

Student Academic Representation Assistants

LBSU’s Student Academic Representation Assistants (SARAs) are students who work part-time to actively listen to students from all areas of the university with the aim of empowering them to make measurable improvements to the academic experience. Their work may be based within individual Schools, across disciplines, or focused on a cross-university issue depending on the task or project at hand.

As well as being leaders and supporting the activity of our Course Reps, the SARAs are also your peers, understanding the unique challenges and experiences of studying at Leeds Beckett.

Get in touch with this year’s team at LBSU-AcademicReps@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to chat with us about your academic experience.
