Why you should stand in the LBSU Leadership Elections!

From Student Representative to Person-Centred Leader, here's why I think you should stand to be an LBSU Student Officer!

OfficersVoice

Hey, It’s Meg, your Academic Experience Officer and I am here to tell you why you should stand for election.

I decided to stand for election to empower people to do the right thing, to be brave and go out of my comfort zone. Having a speech impairment, I have always struggled to get my words out and say things in a way that people will understand but I had always wanted to make a difference, be an officer and now I am in my final term of my second year.

I wanted to show that no disability should stand in your way and that you can do anything that you put your mind too. I have represented students for nearly five years, and I haven’t looked back as I have felt like a role model for those with disabilities or who may not feel confident in standing up in front of people and saying you should vote for me.

If you have not considered standing for election – what are you waiting for?

It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and enables you to have a deeper understanding of the student body and develop your skills for your future career.

Benefits of standing for election:

  • You can meet new people and make friends
  • Develop your confidence
  • Improve your public speaking
  • Increased confidence
  • Resilience and empathy

I have thoroughly enjoyed this roller-coaster of a ride that being an officer has been but it is nearly time for me to say farewell. Any support you need or questions you have, feel free to contact me on m.darroch@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Happy campaigning!

Meg x
