A new term at uni is the perfect opportunity to try something new and branch out! Why not join a student community or one of our societies? It’s a chance to meet new people, learn new skills and make the most of your university experience.
University isn’t all about lectures and exams; it’s about finding your people too. Joining a student community, club, or society introduces you to people who share your interests, no matter what it is. It’s these connections that grow into friendships that last well beyond graduation.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to find a new hobby, try a new sport or support a cause/ campaign - university is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and explore new hobbies. Whether it’s learning about community organising or meeting students from your course, student communities offer a place for discovery and you might find a passion you never expected.
Thinking about life after uni? Employers love to see more than just good grades. Being active in a student community shows leadership, teamwork and time management skills. Organising events, managing budgets or leading a team are all responsibilities that can help set you apart in the job market.
We all know that uni life can be stressful, but having a supportive network makes all the difference. Student communities can provide a sense of belonging and offer emotional support through sharing experiences. Knowing that others are going through similar experiences can be super reassuring.
Getting started is easy! Browse all the student communities that we have to offer or check out our Winter Freshers’ Fair where you can talk to all the different community members. Don’t be afraid to attend a taster session or introductory meeting — everyone was new at some point!
