Bus Campaign at LBSU

There is no better day than Sustainable Transport Day to actively get involved in campaigning for affordable, consistent, and reliable transport. Public transport is one of the backbones of society. It reduces carbon emissions, is eco-friendly and allows people to travel without stress of parking and traffic.

A study conducted by the National Union of Students found that 32% have skipped a meal due to travel costs. 32%...

More than a quarter of students nationally have slept hungry because they chose to travel rather than getting a meal. This is not just a reflection on the cost of living, but a reflection on how much university students rely on public transport and the benefits of public transport. This year we are actively campaigning for affordable, consistent, and reliable transport. Public transport is one of the backbones of society. It reduces carbon emissions, is eco-friendly and allows people to travel without stress of parking and traffic.

Despite public transport being a wonderful solution for the environment, and mental stress, public transport is not given the funding needed to be fully optimal. Ask yourself a question: When was the last time you felt confident that a bus was going to come at the stated time? When was the last time you stood at the bus stop, confident it would arrive without any fear you would be late?

It needs to change, but it won’t change until we decide and commit to changing it. If you want to commit to changing public transport, do not be afraid to join the bus campaign on the Leeds Beckett Students’ Union website here. If you commute, there is a community on the Leeds Beckett Students’ Union website where you can give your opinion on how the University accommodates commuting students. Join the commuter Students' Community here.

If you have an opinion on how transportation is conducted, then this is the perfect time to indulge on the topic.
