We are deeply saddened about the ongoing protests and riots in Iran, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. At the Students' Union, we will always support the right to bodily autonomy and freedom of expression as well as condemning violence and brutality. We are committed to the fundamental principles of equality and the right to protest. If you wish to help from afar, here is a petition to ''End the protest bloodshed in Iran''.

Whilst staying informed on escalating events is important, try to ensure that the media you consume is from a verified and trustworthy source. It's also important that you try to avoid overwhelming yourself with too much upsetting information at once, particularly on social media. Sources such as the BBC, The Guardian and The Independent are free and verified, whereas social media may be inaccurate or misleading. It is also vital that during distressing times such as these, you take additional care to look after your mental health. If you feel like you need support, Student Minds has lots of helpful resources.
We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran.
