Notification of closure of volunteering service

A few months ago, we shared the news that we launched a brand new strategy at the SU, and that we changed our priorities and missions for the next academic year! We're really excited about community organising being at the centre of our organisation and for all the new opportunities it will create for our students. In line with our new strategy, and a reduced staffing team following a restructure, from 1st August 2024 we will no longer be providing our volunteering brokerage service. We are instead focusing on embedding a community organising approach across all of our work, both on campus and in the communities where our students live, with the aim of tackling some of the root causes of issues that students face. This work will still be providing valuable volunteering experience to our members as well as creating paid work opportunities.

What this means in practice is that our online module where organisations can post volunteering opportunities for students to be matched to, will not exist after the 1st August. We feel that organisations such as Voluntary Action Leeds are likely to be able to promote volunteering opportunities to students in a similar way, and Leeds Beckett University are also always sharing opportunities available in Leeds. We will continue to signpost students to other places that they can find volunteering opportunities if they approach us about this.

If you have any questions, please contact LBSU-Welcome@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.
