Overview
This document provides guidance and clarity around what the Students’ Union Campaign Grant is, how to apply to it and what it can be used for.

What is the Students’ Union Campaign Grant?
The Students’ Union Campaign Grant is funding provided to students and Student Communities to help subsidise costs incurred during change-making campaigns, community organising or social justice activities.

Each year, the Students' Union dedicates a certain amount of funding to the Campaign Grant to support these activities.

You must apply for any grant funding in advance of your activity taking place as grant funding cannot be applied for retrospectively.

How to Apply
To apply to the Campaign Grant please visit this link.

Advice for the Application Form

First, the application form will ask you for details about you as the applicant. Please be sure to fill in this in accurately.

Next, please detail as much information as possible about your event, project or campaign plan. This is especially important surrounding the amount of money you are asking for.

In the description of your plans, please itemise the cost of each item you would like funding for and how much. If you are purchasing multiple of something highlight the number of items you are buying for the cost. i.e Badges x 100 = £100

The more information you fill in the easier it will be for the panel to make a decision and will reduce the delay of your application.

Things We Fund
We are keen to encourage community organising and change-making activity by students. Here are some things we have funded in the past:

  • Refreshments for events

  • Delivery of events

  • Travel costs (not including air travel)

  • Coaching/Training

  • Expenses for speakers (Travel costs to be agreed in advance of reimbursement)

  • Award entries

  • Subscription fees to digital platforms which support activity

Please note: this list is not exhaustive, and each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Each application is unique and just because we have previously funded a certain activity or item does not guarantee future funding of similar items.

Food and Drink

Applications for funding requested for food and drink must detail how this supports the achievement of the change-making or community organising activity intended.

Things We Do Not Fund

  • Alcohol

  • Retrospective payments (You can’t apply to fund something that has already occurred)

  • Anything that undermines the law or our charity financial regulations

  • Repairs necessary due to neglect

  • Fines or debt

  • Funding for other charities due to ultra vires

  • Legal fees

Please note: this list is not exhaustive, and each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Each application is unique, and just because we have previously funded a certain activity or item does not guarantee future funding of similar items.
