Leeds City Council have cancelled their public displays for the second year running, but that doesn't mean there aren’t lots of opportunities to celebrate and remember, remember the Fifth of November. Whether you’re heading out to an organised display or celebrating at home, here are some ways to celebrate Bonfire Night with a bang!
Bonfire Night at the Hunslet Club, 6pm Friday 4 November
Hillidge Rd, Hunslet, Leeds LS10 1BP
Not only will this event feature a large fireworks display, but there will also be a barbeque, candy floss, pies and peas, and more! Many of the vendors at the event only accept cash, so plan accordingly if you’re planning on grabbing a bite to eat or a hot drink to keep warm at the display. No tickets are required.
High Farm Fireworks Display, from 5.30pm Saturday 5 November
High Farm, Farrar Lane, Leeds LS16 7AQ
Festivities at High Farm Pub kick off at 5.30pm with plenty of food to enjoy before the fireworks begin. From barbeque to pies and peas, and even pot noodles - there’s a little something for everyone. The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm with a fireworks display following shortly after. No tickets are required. If you’re heading out to an organised display, wrap up warm for the weather and be sure to make a plan for transportation both to and from the event. Celebrating at Home
If you’re planning on organising your own celebration, there are a few things you should be mindful of. Be sure to keep bonfires small and manageable and take care to light them away from houses, sheds, cable, and any other potential fire hazards like trees and bushes. Flammable liquids should never be used to light the fire, instead use a match or lighter. If you are setting off fireworks, take care to only light one at a time at an arm’s length and then keep well away. Keep naked flames away from the fireworks and never return to one once it’s been lit.
For both bonfire and fireworks, groups should nominate at least one person to remain sober and in charge of the situation to make sure everyone stays safe!
