Join us for an evening in remembrance of David Lynch, who we unfortunately lost earlier this year. Lynch's work has inspired the minds of many, through the dark abstractions within his dream-like worlds throughout his impressive filmography.
Leeds Beckett Film Community are hosting a remembrance evening for the recently deceased and well-loved filmmaker, visual artist, musician and actor, David Lynch. Most well known for such films as Eraserhead (1977), Blue Velvet (1986), Mullholland Drive (2001) and the cult-classic TV series Twin Peaks (1990-2017). Lynch's surrealistic cinematic style has become so influential that it has even inspired its own subgenre of cinematic style dubbed "Lynchian". His works have inspired and influenced so much of the media we are exposed to in today's contemporary world and his impact on cinema will never be forgotten.
The event will be from 18:30-21:30 at The Hive - Stage 2.
The event is scheduled for the 24th of February which is the very same day that Agent Dale Cooper enters the town of Twin Peaks in 1990.
"Diane, 11:30 a.m., February Twenty-fourth. Entering the town of Twin Peaks, five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line. I've never seen so many trees in my life." - Agent Dale Cooper
We will have a montage of Lynch's different works projected onto the stage screen (and music from Angelo Badalamenti, as featured in so many of Lynch's works). There will be opportunity for you to write what Lynch's work means to you, or something you remember or love about him or his work to make a remembrance board. We encourage you to bring along any memorabilia or merchandise you have related to Lynch and his work. e.g. books, figures, artwork. There will be a Lynchian pub-quiz (this will start at 7:30) with a prize. There will also be Lynch themed activity print outs (for a bit of silly fun).
This event will be for socialising and celebrating David Lynch's life, however if you are not familiar with his work you are still welcome to come and learn if you'd like to!
The bar will be open for refreshments (hot drinks, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages) , however they will not be serving food. However, you are welcome to order food to The Hive and eat it there (there is a special deal for Dominoes if you scan the code in the bar you can order a Large Pizza + a side for £15).
