Kitty Lambert

Hi! My name is Kitty (she/her) and I am a third-year Law student undertaking the LPC next year. I am nominating myself to be your LGB+ Students’ Convenor as I want to not only advocate for acceptance of our community within the University, but I aim to empower its members. I will work closely with the Student’s Union and staff to make sure that all students who self-identify as any marginalised romantic/sexual orientation or gender identity feel seen, celebrated and respected.

I will work closely with the Trans Students’ Convenor to promote greater intersectionality and inclusivity of students, and ensure that no one is ever discriminated against, or treated unfairly. I want students within this community to feel as though they have a safe space to share any opinions, complaints or suggestions regarding the University’s treatment of them, and I will ensure that I deal with these effectively. No suggestion will ever be too little! I want to encourage everyone to use their voices to help make changes around campus, no matter how small. I will do all I can to facilitate discussion, arrange and lead meetings for positive change.

I believe it is vital that we continue to raise awareness about the different identities that are part of the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, and ensure that all staff members and students are educated on this. Continued work will be done to ensure that students are not misgendered, and that staff members realise the importance of respecting pronouns. We need to make sure that our community members feel understood and safe during their time here at Leeds Beckett. I will utilise awareness days and months such as LGBT+ History Month, Pride Month and International Day Against Homophobia, and see them as opportunities to educate both students and staff on some of the hardships that our community can and has faced.

I would love to increase engagement and involvement within the community through regularly posting on social media sites and interacting with everyone. I want to hold weekly or monthly meetings to discuss pertinent issues within the University, and I will host more in-person events so that everyone has a chance to meet (and make friends with!) others in the community.

If you elect me as your LGB+ Convenor, you will be seeing a lot more of my face around campus, as I am excited to meet you all, hear your ideas and make changes!
